How to Set Up a New Connection

Customers looking to install a new or upgraded service connection must submit a work order request form to our Customer Care department. We encourage you to submit an application to us well in advance of when the service connection is needed. This should allow for necessary supplies to arrive via sealift.

  1. To download an Electrical Service Application form, please click here. If you are unable to download the form, please contact our Customer Care department at 1-866-710-4200 or customercare@qec.nu.ca and one can be mailed, emailed, or faxed to you. Forms can also be picked up in person at one of our Customer Care offices. For QEC office street addresses, please click here.
  2. Submit a completed and signed Electrical Service Application and work order form to our technical staff (please note that if you have hired an electrical contractor, they may be able to help you complete the forms).  You can submit your forms by email at servicedesk@qec.nu.ca, by mail to our engineering team at our Iqaluit corporate office, or in person to any of our Customer Care offices, or by fax to (867) 979-7548 Attn: Electrical Service Application.  For our Iqaluit office mailing address and our Customer Care office street addresses, please click here.
  3. QEC technical staff will review your completed forms. If your electrical service connection requires us to build or upgrade infrastructure for your connection, you will have to sign a cost estimate to move forward with the installation.
  4. If there is a cost associated with the service connection installation, customers will be required to pay a security deposit. Payments will be adjusted after the installation to reflect the actual cost of the service connection. The security deposit can made in person or mailed to any of our Customer Care offices. For QEC street and mailing addresses, please click here.
  5. Prior to starting any electrical work, you should contact your regional Safety Services branch to obtain necessary electrical permits. When the electrical service installation is complete, you should arrange an electrical inspection. Once the electrical inspector approves the installation, they will issue another permit to QEC requesting for a power connection. To reach your regional Safety Services branch, please contact:
