Qulliq Energy Corporation

 

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.

 

QEC 21-053 Director Corporate Affairs

 

Based out of Iqaluit, Nunavut and reporting to the President and CEO, the Director, Corporate Affairs is responsible for the strategic oversight of the Corporate Affairs department, including coordinating intergovernmental affairs, corporate reporting, strategic planning, internal and external communications, and policy development. The position is also responsible for serving as a key intergovernmental liaison between QEC and the Government of Nunavut on matters of policy, planning, corporate communications and legislative requirements. The position also participates as a Senior Management Committee member and serves as a leadership representative between the department and QEC’s Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation and quality of corporate affairs and work products to stakeholders – including QEC’s primary stakeholder, the Government of Nunavut;
  • Acts as critical liaison with the Minister’s Office and GN Central Agencies (Finance, Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, Justice, and Culture and Heritage).
  • Develops in partnership with the Senior Management Committee appropriate policies and plans to ensure that QEC achieves its vision and priorities, translating these into tangible action plans and successful outcomes.
  • Ensure corporate transparency through the accountability of Access to Information of Protection and Privacy requests.
  • Coordinate the preparation of briefing materials for Legislative Assembly sessions and coordinate the monitoring of sessions to track questions posed to the Minister responsible for QEC, write responses and submit responses in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the drafting of Ministerial correspondence with Manager, Corporate Planning.
  • Performance Manage direct reports, this includes, but not limited to, completing annual performance reviews, coach and mentor to promote growth and resolve workplace disputes in coordination with Human Resources

 

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, political science, or related discipline.
  • Seven years of experience in public relations, public policy, or communications
  • Five years of supervisory experience in a management or senior level role.

 

Assets:

  • Experience in the utility sector is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture.
  • The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $121, 836.00 to $158,905.50 a northern living allowance of $15,016.00 per annum, a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program and subsidized staff housing. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.

 

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
