Director, Operations (QEC-23-010)
Iqaluit, Nunavut
QEC is seeking the Director, Operations at its Iqaluit Community. The Director, Operations provides strategic direction to the Operations department. The position aligns the department with Qulliq Energy Corporation’s strategic goals and objectives, participates in the Senior Management Committee, develops departmental budgets, oversees daily operations, ensures continuous process and policy improvements, and oversees special projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and operation of distribution systems, buildings and housing facilities, and all power generation assets within the territory. This includes providing leadership to the department, ensuring maximum operational efficiency, acting as a corporate liaison to public authorities and officials, and ensuring the corporation is compliant with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Creates Capital Investment plans that will lead to improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, reduced cost, and greater reliability of equipment and electricity generation.
- Seeks out industry knowledge and ensures that best practice considerations are included in the overall strategic plan where possible.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with community leaders to ensure community concerns are addressed, ensures transparency of operational business initiatives, programs, and projects.
Required Qualifications Include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Utilities Management, Business Management, or applicable field Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- At least ten (10) years of progressive experience in an operations role within the utilities industry, five years of which must be in a management or senior level role supervising direct reports.
- Demonstrable experience working with Board of Directors, Senior Managers, and internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experience initiating business proposals, business cases, and producing cost justifications, budgeting, forecasting and capital planning projects.
Assets:
- Experience in the utility sector is an asset.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is an asset.
- Professional Designation in a relevant field is an asset
- Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language, and culture an asset.
- The ability to speak Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French an asset.
We offer a competitive salary range of $178,537.00 to $234,275.00 and a northern living allowance of $16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. In addition, subsidized staff housing is available for this position. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.
Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
