Exercise caution around power poles and power lines

Submitted by sglaeske on

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to remind Nunavummiut to exercise caution around power poles and power lines. Please remember the following to avoid unplanned power outages, serious injury, or death:

  • Remember to keep a minimum distance of three meters from overhead power lines.
  • Do not fly kites near power lines.
  • Keep away from service wires going into buildings.
  • Refrain from placing large items such as crates and sea cans underneath service wires. This avoids creating platforms that unnecessarily allow access to a safety hazard.
  • Use a spotter when operating powered mobile equipment and a view of the path is not clear. This is a requirement for Nunavut workers under the territory’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations found online here: www.wscc.nu.ca
  • If digging is required near power poles please contact customercare@qec.nu.ca / servicedesk@qec.nu.ca to have a site assessment completed.

To report a power outage or power related emergency, including damaged infrastructure, call QEC’s 24-hour emergency number at 1-867-222-3807.

QEC would like to thank Nunavummiut for their continued cooperation in using safe practices around power poles and power lines.
