Qulliq Energy Corporation
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.
Fleet Service Technician - Temporary
Based out of Iqaluit, Nunavut and reporting to the Manager, Production, The Fleet Service Technician is responsible for traveling to various communities to perform vehicle inspections and maintenance on all corporate vehicles. The position also keeps detailed inspection and maintenance records of all corporate vehicles, maintains an inventory of consumable items and replacement parts, updates the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and advises on vehicle specifications during the tendering process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Travels to remote communities to conduct inspections and perform corrective maintenance on all corporate vehicles, as required.
- Assists in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to improve operability of vehicular assets.
- Performs specialized maintenance on radial boom derrick trucks and line maintenance aerial vehicles and associated devices.
- Tracks and reports on fleet usage and analyzes maintenance costs to provide recommendations on fleet utilization and replacement.
- Assists in the development of maintenance budget by providing input related to maintenance and utilization.
Required Qualifications Include:
- Interprovincial Red Seal certification as a Truck and Coach Technician, or similar trade certification.
- Five years’ (5) of post-qualification experience in a similar working environment.
- Class 3 driver’s license, including the ability to meet insurance requirements.
Assets:
- Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture.
- The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.
Equivalencies consisting of a combination of related education and experience may be considered.
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $93,017 to $107,889, a northern living allowance of $15,016 per annum, eligibility for overtime, a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program and subsidized staff housing. This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union.
Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
