Qulliq Energy Corporation
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.
Labourer-Facilities (Casual)
Baker Lake, Nunavut
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Labourer – Facilities is responsible for performing a variety of manual labour tasks within the Facilities division. The position assists department staff by carrying out general labour tasks related to the Corporation’s residential, commercial, and industrial leased and owned assets, such as: residential housing units, transient units, office buildings, storage facilities, Quonset huts, shops, and similar assets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engages in labour activities such as material handling, heavy lifting, sorting, cleaning, organizing, painting, etc.
- Performs general maintenance tasks for facilities and other real property assets.
- Retrieves, organizes, ships, delivers, assembles, and disassembles a variety of assets including material, furniture, supplies, and other items related to the ongoing operations of the Facilities division.
- Moves heavy loads such as furniture, appliances, building materials, etc.
- Performs setup and clean up of various sites related to the facilities division.
- Performs building checks of the Corporation’s real property assets.
- Conducts snow removal and sanding of the Corporation’s real property assets.
- Cleans and organizes the QEC warehouse and carpenters shop, and any other QEC facility as directed.
- Performs general labour support across the organization, as required.
Required Qualifications Include:
- A minimum completion of Grade 10.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.
This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Baker Lake only.
This is a position of trust. Accordingly, a satisfactory criminal record check is required prior to the commencement of employment.
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $66,539.20 to $74,722.40 and a northern living allowance of $24,281.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program.
Subsidized staff housing is not available for this position. This position is included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.
Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
