Qulliq Energy Corporation

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.

QEC 23-028 Line Maintenance Supervisor- Qikiqtaaluk Region

The Line Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance planning and scheduling programs for all distribution work performed in the Qikiqtaaluk Region. The position is also responsible for liaising with the Engineering department on distribution-related capital projects, recoverable projects and time-material-invoicing projects.

The position ensures distribution work complies with QEC distribution standards, utility-industry best practices, workplace safety regulations, procurement guidelines, and QEC corporate policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and assigns distribution maintenance activities in the Qikiqtaaluk region and ensures all annual regional distribution maintenance targets are accomplished.
  • Collaborates with the Manager, Distribution and Fleet Operations to schedule planned outages and coordinate and report on distribution system outages.
  • Coordinates with the Engineering department to plan, design, and execute recoverable and capital projects.
  • Liaises with other supervisors in the Operations department to plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance projects.
  • Coordinates crew travel within the region by organizing air charters for emergencies.
  • Liaises with contractors to coordinate line crew activities.
  • Reports on weekly material usage and ensures adequate inventory levels are maintained.

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Inter-provincial certification as a Powerline Technician.
  • Five years of post-qualification experience in the production and distribution of power.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.

Assets:

  • Experience preparing capital and operating budgets is an asset.
  • Experience working with a computerized maintenance management system is an asset.
  • Formal training with Microsoft Office software is an asset.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $119,471.75 to $141,613.15 and a northern living allowance of $16,008 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program. Subsidized staff housing is available for this position. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
