Qulliq Energy Corporation
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.
Project Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (QEC-24-015)
Iqaluit, Nunavut
Reporting to Manager, Electrical Distribution Planning, the Project Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy is responsible for Coordinating with Federal and other funding agencies for Renewable and Alternative energy initiatives on funding. The incumbent is accountable for the implementation of the QEC Alternative energy initiative and overseeing the project completion. Conduct research and coordinate with other jurisdictions and utilities for developing energy management plan and program for the Corporation to meet its mandate for reducing dependency on Imported fossil fuel. Provide technical evaluations of all renewable / alternative energy programs (NMP, CIPP, IPP).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage document Control, tracking and recording of contracts, understanding of contractual requirements and communication with external and internal parties.
- Provide engineering evaluation of new applications. Coordinate with consultants for conducting studies.
- Work with external proponents to evaluate their projects in consultation with QEC internal resources and external consultants.
- Develop cost estimates for QEC for renewable/alternative energy program (i.e., NMP, CIPP, IPP).
- Liaise with Operations to ensure coordination, especially during commissioning.
- The individual will work with Corporate Affairs, Finance and with Engineering Department.
- Technical evaluations of all three programs (NMP, CIPP and IPP)
- Work with Engineering, external consultant and involve in research to develop / initiate renewable energy projects to be incorporated as a part of QEC power generation (generation/ distribution).
- Prepare technical and financial report as per requirement of renewable and alternative energy funding programs. These reports will be circulated for internal and external usage.
Required Qualifications Include:
- An academic degree preferably with a discipline in sustainable energy, planning, engineering, or finance.
- 5-7+ years of experience working in power and/or Alternative/Renewable Energy Industry.
Assets:
- P. Eng., PMP designation will be an asset.
- Project management experience with capital projects in renewable energy, energy infrastructure, environmental infrastructure is an asset.
- Experience in Utility sector is an asset.
- Experience in recording and preparation of technical documentation an asset.
- Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language, and culture.
- The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.
A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $108,940.92 to $128,205.91 and a northern living allowance of $16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. In addition, subsidized staff housing is available for this position. This position is included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.
Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
