Qulliq Energy Corporation

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.

Project Manager, Electrical Generation (Casual)

Iqaluit, Nunavut

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Generation, the Project Manager, Electrical Generation is responsible for the direction, coordination, implementation, and completion of assigned projects relating to the Corporations generation systems. The position works closely with engineering, purchasing and operations staff to achieve project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs all functions of project management and control, including the preparation of assessments and feasibility studies for potential upgrade/rehabilitation projects and construction of new facilities.
  • Leads all elements of multiple projects including planning, and implementation of the projects, facilitating project scope, schedule, goals, and deliverables.
  • Plans and reviews project schedules and timelines to ensure projects are on track.
  •  Presents reports defining project progress, percentage complete, problems, and solutions.
  • Participates in tender evaluations, analyzes submission, and makes recommendations for consultant selection and contract awards.
  • Assists in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of engineering designs and as-builds as well as managing tenders and related information.
  • Provides technical support to Operations, contractors and consultants as requested.

Required Qualifications Include: 

  • Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited Canadian university or equivalent.
  • Three years of engineering project management experience.

 

Assets:

  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation is an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.

A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $104,750.89 to $123,274.91 and a northern living allowance of $16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. In addition, subsidized staff housing is available for this position. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee’s Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
