Qulliq Energy Corporation
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.
QEC-20-003 Intermediate Accountant (12 Month Term)
Based out of Baker Lake, Nunavut and reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Intermediate Accountant provides general accounting support to the corporation. This includes reconciliation of financial accounts, overseeing general bank and payroll disbursements, as well as making general ledger assignment decisions and entries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures that the financial components of all corporate transactions are recorded in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
- Reviews and reconciles general ledger accounts as required including assets, liabilities and expenses.
- Inputs monthly payroll liabilities, loan payments, interest on loans, bank charges, and GST remittances if required.
- Completes month end journal entries, including payroll and purchasing accruals, prepaid expense reclassifications, LTD interest accruals, and debenture interests.
- Assists in reconciliation as required as per travel advances, superannuation, and vendor reconciliation to Accounts Payable Sub Ledger.
- Prepares monthly fuel tax reports, reconciles fuel tickets to fuel invoices and prepares journal entries for fuel usage and fuel receipts.
Required Qualifications Include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university.
- Professional accounting designation or extensive practical experience with GAAP and significant progression toward completion of accounting designation.
- Three (3) years experience working in accounting roles of increasing responsibility.
- Experience reconciling general ledger accounts in a computerized, multi-department, multi-location environment.
- Experience in detailed financial analysis.
Assets:
- Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture.
- The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.
Equivalencies consisting of a combination of related education and experience may be considered.
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $93,268 to $108,946, a northern living allowance of $24,381 per annum, eligibility for overtime, a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program and subsidized staff housing. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employees Union.
Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
