Qulliq Energy Corporation
Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.
QEC-20-005 Accounting Assistant
Based out of Baker Lake, Nunavut and reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for performing daily cash reconciliations, month-end bank reconciliations, and ensuring the collection and storage of all relevant documentation to maintain compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for the analysis of projects and specific general ledger accounts. The position is also responsible for providing accounting and administrative support to the Senior, Intermediate and Project Accountants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cross-references all bank statements with financial reports from Great Plains (GP) for reconciliation.
- Enters data into the general ledger for reconciliation.
- Enters deposits, bank charges, cleared cheques, loan payments, etc into the Cash Balance spreadsheet.
- Inputs monthly payroll liabilities, loan payments, interest on loans, bank charges, and GST remittances if required.
- Applies pre-paid month-end accruals to correct financial period.
- Assists the Project Accountants by contacting delinquent customers, gathering invoices and providing support for the billing of recoverable accounts, gathering invoices to respond to audit queries, and operational queries on projects.
Required Qualifications Include:
- High school diploma.
- Two (2) years of office administration experience.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts, the public, and work as part of a team with colleagues and supervisors.
Assets:
- Post-secondary education in office or business administration is an asset.
- Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture.
- The ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French.
Equivalencies consisting of a combination of related education and experience may be considered.
We offer a competitive starting salary range of $62,380 to $69,771, a northern living allowance of $24,381 per annum, eligibility for overtime, and a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension program. This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union.
