IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 30, 2018) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has awarded the 2018 Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship to Jasmine Redfern of Iqaluit. This year’s recipient is a Nunavut Law Program student pursuing a career as a bilingual Inuktitut and English-speaking lawyer.
“Ms. Redfern has been a leader and advocate for Indigenous youth within the territory and across the country,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister Responsible for QEC. “She possesses many of the same leadership traits as Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier, for whom this scholarship is named.”
The award pays tribute to Ms. Gauthier’s contribution to the establishment of an independent energy corporation for Nunavut before her sudden passing in 2000. Launched in 2001, the $5000 scholarship is presented annually to a promising student pursuing post-secondary education.
“QEC applauds Ms. Redfern’s work in spearheading initiatives that benefit Nunavut communities,” said Bruno Pereira, QEC’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We wish her continued success as she forges ahead with her educational goals.”
