IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 12, 2019) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is pleased to announce that Anchaleena Mandal of Iqaluit has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship. Anchaleena is a Doctor of Medicine student in the Queen’s University Accelerated Route to Medical School program and continues to develop competencies in Inuktitut to better connect with future patients.
“Ms. Mandal is a mental health advocate, a devoted community member, and an accomplished musician. It is wonderful to present her with the Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for QEC. “Her passion for learning, along with her willingness to share her academic and cultural knowledge with others, is inspiring.”
The award pays tribute to Ms. Gauthier’s contribution to the establishment of an independent energy corporation for Nunavut before her sudden passing in 2000. Launched in 2001, the $5000 scholarship is presented annually to a promising student pursuing post-secondary education.
“QEC applauds Ms. Mandal’s achievements and wishes her continued success as she enters her third year at Queen’s University,” said Bruno Pereira, QEC’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Her dedication to higher education is commendable. She is setting herself up to accomplish great things.”
