IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 23, 2020) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has awarded the 2020 Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship to Jenna Kilabuk of Pangnirtung. Ms. Kilabuk is a second year student enrolled in the in the Nunavut Teachers Education Program at Nunavut Arctic College.
“By enriching the minds of our students, it is her goal to help bridge the gap between today’s education system and our territory’s traditional values,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for QEC. “I wish her all the best as she continues to lead the way for our students.”
The corporation awards the $5000 scholarship annually to a promising Nunavut student who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement and commitment to community involvement. The scholarship pays tribute to Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier who was instrumental in the establishment of Nunavut’s own independent utility.
“Almost 20 years after Ms. Gauthier’s passing, I am proud the corporation is able to honour her achievements by awarding the 2020 scholarship to a deserving student such as Jenna Kilabuk,” said Jamie Flaherty, QEC’s Acting President and CEO.
