IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 19, 2024)—Qulliq Energy Corporation is moving forward with its commitment to strengthen and modernize energy infrastructure in the territory by awarding construction contracts for power plant replacement projects to ADCO Power for Cambridge Bay and Pilitak Enterprises for Gjoa Haven and Igloolik. The progression of these projects marks an essential step in ensuring a reliable power supply for our communities, incorporating advanced technologies to improve safety, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources in the future.
“By awarding these contracts, we’re addressing our communities’ growing energy needs,” said the Honourable John Main, Minister responsible for QEC. “The corporation is committed to developing efficient and cost-effective solutions that keep energy affordable and accessible to Nunavummiut.
The new power plants in Cambridge Bay, Gjoa Haven and Igloolik are expected to commence construction in the 2025-26 fiscal year. QEC has secured funding through the Arctic Energy Fund to help support the project costs.
