IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 3, 2024) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied for a fuel rider of 3.70 cents per kilowatt hour for the period of April 1 to September 30, 2024. The application was submitted to the Honourable John Main, Minister responsible for QEC, who will seek recommendations from the territory’s Utility Rates Review Council.
“The requested fuel rider is related to the increase in territorial fuel prices announced in January,” said Mr. Main.
A fuel rider is an additional charge or refund on customer bills intended to reflect the difference between the fuel prices reflected in the electricity rates and the actual fuel cost paid by QEC.
“QEC customers can expect the charge to be automatically applied to their monthly bills, starting with the April utility bill, with the exception of public housing tenants who are subsidized under Nunavut Housing Corporation’s program,” said James Arreak, Acting Interim President and CEO of QEC.
Customers who use approximately 500 kilowatt hours per month can expect an increase of approximately $19.41 (including GST) on their monthly bill.
More information on QEC’s fuel rider application is available at www.qec.nu.ca.
