Qulliq Energy Corporation Applies for Fuel Rider

Submitted by bbilodeau on

IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 18, 2024) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied for a fuel rider of 1.35 cents/kWh from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The application was submitted to Mr. John Main, the Minister responsible for QEC, who will seek recommendations from the territory’s Utility Rates Review Council (URRC).

“It is comforting to see the fuel rider that was in effect up to September 30 has dropped from 3.70 cents/kWh 2024 to 1.35 cents/kWh,” said Minister Main. “As winter approaches, this reduction will give some relief to QEC customers.”

A fuel rider is an additional charge or refund on customer bills intended to reflect the difference between the fuel prices used to set the electricity rates and the actual fuel cost paid by QEC.

“Except public housing tenants subsidized under Nunavut Housing Corporation’s program, QEC customers can expect the reduction to be automatically applied to their monthly bills, starting with the October utility bill,” said Ernest Douglas, President & CEO of QEC.

The expected impact of the revised fuel rider on customers’ bills is a monthly reduction of $12.34 (including GST) to non-government residential customers using 500 kWh/month.
