Qulliq Energy Corporation applies for fuel rider refund

Submitted by cwhittaker on

IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 1, 2020) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied to refund customers a fuel rider of 2.76 cents per kilowatt hour for the period of April 1 to September 30, 2020. The application was submitted to the Minister responsible for QEC, who will seek recommendations from the territory’s Utility Rates Review Council.

“The requested fuel rider refund is related to the decrease in territorial fuel prices announced in January,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for QEC. “Decreased fuel costs benefit customers by lowering electricity bills and putting money back in the hands of Nunavummiut.”

A fuel rider is an additional charge or refund on customer bills that is intended to reflect the difference between the fuel prices reflected in the electricity rates and the actual cost of fuel paid by QEC.

“QEC customers can expect the refund to be automatically applied to their monthly bills, starting with the April utility bill, with the exception of public housing tenants who are subsidized under Nunavut Housing Corporation’s program,” said Bruno Pereira, QEC’s President and CEO.

Customers who use approximately 500 kilowatt hours per month can expect to see a decrease of approximately $14.50 (including GST) on their monthly bill.

More information on QEC’s fuel rider application is available at www.qec.nu.ca.
