IQALUIT, Nunavut (December 9, 2019) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) successfully passed an external audit by the Northern Safety Association (NSA). Part of a well-respected, Canada-wide certification program, COR audits evaluate existing health and safety programs along with workplace practices. QEC completed the audit with an overall score of 86%.
“In 2013, QEC was the first corporation in Nunavut to achieve the COR accreditation.,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for QEC. “Each year, QEC continues to make safety a top priority for employees, contractors, and customers.”
The corporation undergoes internal maintenance audits annually and external audits every three years. The recent assessment included 13 worksites visits, 47 employee interviews and a full review of all health and safety documentation. QEC will develop an action plan from the 2019 external audit to address identified areas for improvement.
“We believe that workplace incidents, illnesses and injuries are preventable,” said Bruno Pereira, QEC’s President and CEO. “QEC prioritizes feedback from the auditing process to ensure our safety programs are based on continuous improvement.”
