Senior Management Changes

IQALUIT, Nunavut (June 24, 2016) – Premier Peter Taptuna today announced changes to the Government of Nunavut senior management team, and appointed a president to serve Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC).

“With the re-alignment of executive council, key changes to our government’s senior management will continue effective and well implemented leadership of Sivumut Abluqta,” said Premier Taptuna. “These appointments support the knowledge and abilities of our public service leaders, and I’m pleased to reposition those strengths within our departments.”

Effective July 5, 2016, Bruno Pereira will take over as President of QEC, following a national competition. Mr. Pereira is a professional engineer with a master of business administration, and comes to the position with over 25 years of experience in Ontario’s energy sector.

As of July 29, 2016 the following changes are in effect:

Chris D’Arcy, Deputy Minister of Finance, becomes Deputy Minister of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, Cabinet Secretary and Secretary to Senior Personnel Secretariat.

David Akeeagok, Deputy Minister of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, Cabinet Secretary and Secretary to Senior Personnel Secretariat returns to the role of Deputy Minister of Environment.

Simon Awa, Acting Deputy Minister of Environment returns as full-time Chief Negotiator, Devolution.

Jeffery Chown, Nunavut’s Comptroller General, is now appointed Deputy Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Financial Management Board.

Alma Power, the Assistant Comptroller General, becomes Acting Comptroller General.
