This power outage is required to accommodate construction in the area.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the community of Grise Fiord that there will be a planned power outage on Friday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This power outage is required to replace a damaged power pole.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Rankin Inlet that a contractor will be in the community from July 23 to 27 to investigate a propylene glycol leak that occurred last fall. Approximately 30,000 to 40,000 litres of a 50/50 propylene glycol and water mixture leaked from the District Heating System as a result of equipment failure. Propylene glycol is a clear, odourless, tasteless liquid found in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, and is relatively non-toxic to humans and wildlife.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Grise Fiord that the corporation will be decommissioning the old power plant fuel system from July 20 to 30, 2020. The affected area is marked in red on the map below.

Decommissioning the old power plant fuel system requires the use of heavy equipment to move items for disposal. While safety will be monitored on the site, community members are asked to exercise caution around the area where decommissioning work is being done.

QEC would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there will be planned power outages on Saturday, July 4. The first power outage (highlighted in yellow on the first map) will take place from 6 to 6:30 a.m. and the second power outage (highlighted in orange on the second map) will take place from 6:30 to 10 a.m.  

These power outages are required to accommodate new construction on the lower plateau.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is encouraging the public to provide feedback on the pricing structure of the corporation’s proposed Commercial and Institutional Power Producer (CIPP) Program. The CIPP program is being developed to allow existing commercial and institutional customers to generate renewable energy on their premises and sell all generated energy to QEC.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Resolute Bay that there will be a planned power outage on Sunday, June 21 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This power outage is required to perform upgrades and maintenance to the distribution system.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform Nunavummiut that QEC’s upgrades and maintenance season has begun.

During warmer weather conditions, QEC makes repairs to damaged power lines and poles, and performs upgrades and maintenance to power plants. This work is required to ensure that customers have a safe and reliable power supply all year long.

QEC staff will communicate with hamlet officials prior to planned power outages. Customers will also be informed in advance through radio, social media, and email.

IQALUIT, Nunavut (June 15, 2020) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) and the City of Iqaluit have signed a new district heating agreement. On April 6, 2020, Iqaluit’s City Council voted unanimously to enter into a new agreement to connect the Aquatic Centre, Water Treatment Plant, Water Booster Station and Water Reheat Station for a 20-year term. 

QEC’s Customer Care offices will re-open on Monday, June 15 for regular business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. local time). Customer Care offices are located in Rankin Inlet, Baker Lake, Iqaluit and Cambridge Bay.

Following the direction of the Chief Public Health Officer, there will be a limited number of people allowed in Customer Care areas at one-time. All customers are asked to respect the restrictions and remain two meters (six feet) apart. The first hour of operations will be designated for elders and other vulnerable groups.
