Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there will be a planned power outage on Saturday, March 7 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This outage is required to connect a new customer to the distribution system on Federal Road.

QEC apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

IQALUIT, Nunavut (December 9, 2019) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) successfully passed an external audit by the Northern Safety Association (NSA). Part of a well-respected, Canada-wide certification program, COR audits evaluate existing health and safety programs along with workplace practices. QEC completed the audit with an overall score of 86%.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the community of Coral Harbour that there will be a community-wide power outage on Sunday, November 24, from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.

This power outage is required to perform upgrades to the electrical equipment in the generation system.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied to the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister responsible for QEC, for a major project permit to build a new power plant in Arctic Bay. The application is required for permission to replace the existing power plant which has reached the end of its intended life.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform Nunavummiut that a propylene glycol leak occurred in Rankin Inlet as a result of equipment failure. The incident was discovered at 2 a.m. on November 3, 2019, and an investigation began immediately. Between 15,000-20,000 litres of propylene glycol, mixed with 15,000-20,000 litres of water, may have leaked from the District Heating System (DHS) in the section of buried pipeline connected to the health centre. The affected portion of the DHS was promptly isolated and emptied.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the community of Rankin Inlet that there will be a community-wide power outage on Saturday, November 2, from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

This outage is required to upgrade electrical equipment in the power generation system.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Sanikiluaq that there will be a planned power outage in a section of the community on Tuesday, October 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This outage is required to perform repairs and maintenance to the distribution system to improve reliability.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there will be two planned power outages in the city on Saturday, October 12.

1.    The first power outage, from 7 to 9 a.m., is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

2.    The second power outage, from 9 to 11 a.m., is highlighted in orange on the map below.  

These power outages are required to accommodate construction in the area.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is currently accepting applications from Nunavut residents interested in serving on the QEC board. The corporation is looking for dedicated individuals from the territory with diverse educational backgrounds, leadership skills and vision to make a positive contribution to QEC.

Successful candidates will be appointed for a three-year term as part of an ongoing recruitment process.
