Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the public that the Customer Care office in Iqaluit will be temporarily closed from November 26th to December 2nd, 2024, due to staff rotation.

Nov. 23-24: Community-Wide Power Outages in Sanikiluaq

To support ongoing upgrades to community infrastructure, Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to notify the residents of Sanikiluaq that there will be two planned community-wide power outages scheduled for the following dates:

  • Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

These planned outages will impact all customers and are necessary to complete crucial system and equipment upgrades.

November 23: Planned Partial-Community Outage in Igloolik

Date: Saturday, November 23, 2024

Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) will be performing maintenance on the generator in Igloolik. This work requires a partial outage throughout the day, rotating feeders every hour.

What this means for you:

Igloolik has three feeders, so customers will experience a one-hour outage in their area every two hours for the duration of the maintenance.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconveniences that has caused.

QEC Minister Announces Contracts Awarded for Three Power Plant Replacements

IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 19, 2024)—Qulliq Energy Corporation is moving forward with its commitment to strengthen and modernize energy infrastructure in the territory by awarding construction contracts for power plant replacement projects to ADCO Power for Cambridge Bay and Pilitak Enterprises for Gjoa Haven and Igloolik. The progression of these projects marks an essential step in ensuring a reliable power supply for our communities, incorporating advanced technologies to improve safety, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources in the future.

Planned Community-Wide Power Outages in Iqaluit October 27 & 29

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there will be planned community-wide power outages on the following dates:


Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.


These two community-wide power outages are required to safely perform electrical upgrades for the interconnection of a new generator.


QEC thanks residents for their understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Qulliq Energy Corporation Applies for Fuel Rider

IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 18, 2024) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied for a fuel rider of 1.35 cents/kWh from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The application was submitted to Mr. John Main, the Minister responsible for QEC, who will seek recommendations from the territory’s Utility Rates Review Council (URRC).

“It is comforting to see the fuel rider that was in effect up to September 30 has dropped from 3.70 cents/kWh 2024 to 1.35 cents/kWh,” said Minister Main. “As winter approaches, this reduction will give some relief to QEC customers.”
