IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 30, 2018) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has awarded the 2018 Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship to Jasmine Redfern of Iqaluit. This year’s recipient is a Nunavut Law Program student pursuing a career as a bilingual Inuktitut and English-speaking lawyer.

“Ms. Redfern has been a leader and advocate for Indigenous youth within the territory and across the country,” said the Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister Responsible for QEC. “She possesses many of the same leadership traits as Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier, for whom this scholarship is named.”

IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 25, 2018) – The Honourable Jeannie Ehaloak, Minister Responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC), has announced three new appointments to the Corporation’s Board of Directors; Juanie Pudluk of Iqaluit, Nastania Mullin of Iqaluit, and Roxanne Reudiger of Rankin Inlet. On October 18, 2018, Cabinet approved the appointments for three-year terms.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the community of Cape Dorset that there will be planned intermittent power outages from Wednesday, October 24, to Thursday, November 15. The duration of the power outages may vary from five minutes to an hour and will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

These power outages are required to make upgrades to the distribution system and improve reliability. The work will also prepare QEC’s system for the connection of the new power plant.

All customers will be notified in person in advance of any power outages.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Chesterfield Inlet that there is a planned power outage scheduled for a section of the community on Sunday, October 21, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

This power outage is required to relocate a section of the power lines.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there is a planned power outage scheduled for a section of the community on Sunday, October 14 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The affected area is in Apex and is highlighted on the map below.

This power outage is required to relocate power lines to accommodate the location of a residential customer currently under construction. QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for the inconvenience this may cause during this time.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Gjoa Haven that a planned community-wide power outage will occur on Saturday, October 6, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This power outage is required to prepare the distribution system for the upcoming connection of a new emergency generator.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Grise Fiord that there will be upcoming planned power outages in the community. These power outages are required to prepare the distribution system for the upcoming connection of the new power plant.

Due to uncertain effects of weather conditions on travel arrangements, a power outage schedule is not available at this time. Customers will be informed in advance of planned power outages through hamlet officials, local radio and QEC’s social media channels.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Iqaluit that there will be a planned city-wide power outage on Sunday, September 16.

The power outage will begin at 4 a.m. and is expected to be restored after approximately four hours. As a precaution, the power outage could last up to 6 hours.

This power outage is required to perform repairs and maintenance to the power plant and distribution system to improve reliability. The required work is expected to minimize any future city-wide power outages.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Cambridge Bay that a planned community-wide power outage will occur on Thursday, September 13 from 12:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.

This outage is required to perform testing and maintenance work on the distribution system.

The governments of Canada and Nunavut are working together to take action on climate change, helping residents save money while they improve energy efficiency.

Today, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, announced a federal investment of almost $12 million that will go toward energy efficiency retrofits for Nunavut’s public housing and the installation of new district heating systems in the communities of Sanikiluaq and Taloyoak.
