Call for applications to Qulliq Energy Corporation’s Board of Directors

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is accepting applications from Inuit interested in serving on the corporation’s board for a three-year term. Residents of Nunavut are strongly encouraged to apply.

QEC is a territorial corporation of the Government of Nunavut. The corporation is responsible for the generation and distribution of electricity in the territory.

Applicants are requested to email a cover letter and resume to Shelly McLeod at smcleod@qec.nu.ca by July 13, 2018.

ASSISTANT OPERATOR

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will assist the Plant Superintendent in maintaining safe and continuous power generation and distribution, as well as in integrating production and maintenance requirements of all mechanical and electrical equipment under his jurisdiction. As an Assistant Operator, you will be expected to operate and monitor the diesel powerhouse and associated systems to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective electrical service to Qulliq Energy customers in the community, and to assume an acting role as Plant Superintendent during absences or as required.

POWERLINE TECHNICIAN

If you are a qualified Powerline Technician who enjoys working both independently and collaboratively, and can effectively manage competing priorities and emergency situations, and deliver projects on time and on budget, we should talk. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will install, maintain and repair power lines, locate and connect new services and participate in meter reads, ensuring consistent adherence to safety, electrical and other industry codes and standards, as well as corporate policies and procedures.

Planned Power Outage in Arctic Bay

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Arctic Bay that there will be a planned power outage in a section of the community on Sunday, June 17 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. The affected area is highlighted on the map below.

This outage is required to perform repairs and maintenance to the distribution system to improve reliability.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for the inconvenience this may cause during this time.

Minister approves electricity rate increase for Qulliq Energy Corporation

IQALUIT, Nunavut (June 1, 2018) – The Minister Responsible for Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has approved a 6.6% increase to Nunavut’s electricity rates. The increase will be applied to customer bills over a two-year period. The first increase will be retroactive to May 1, 2018, and the second increase will be applied on April 1, 2019.

QEC’s proposal to shift from the current varied rate structure to a territory-wide rate structure was not approved.
