Planned Power Outage in Kugluktuk

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Kugluktuk that there will be planned power outages on Saturday, June 12 (Map A), and Sunday, June 13 (Map B), from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The affected areas are highlighted in yellow. The areas in green will not be affected.

These outages are required to complete upgrades to the distribution system to improve reliability.

QEC decommissioning old power plant in Kinngait

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Kinngait that the corporation will be decommissioning the old power plant from June 10 to July 22, 2021. The affected area is marked in red on the map below.

Decommissioning the old power plant requires the use of heavy equipment to move items for disposal. While safety will be monitored on site, community members are asked to exercise caution around the area where decommissioning work is being completed.

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Kugluktuk that there will be a planned community-wide power outage on Sunday, June 6, from 6 a.m. to noon.

This outage is required to complete upgrades to the distribution system to improve reliability.

QULLIQ ENERGY CORPORATION

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut. In comparison to other utilities in Canada, QEC faces unique challenges as it operates 25 stand-alone diesel power generation facilities and distribution systems located in each of the territory’s communities.

QEC re-opening Customer Care office in Iqaluit

QEC’s Customer Care office in Iqaluit will re-open on Monday, June 7, for regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time).

There will be a limited number of people allowed in the Customer Care area at a time. All customers are asked to respect public health measures by wearing a mask and remaining at least two meters (six feet) apart. The first hour of operations will be designated for elders and other vulnerable groups.

Planned Power Outage in Kimmirut

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Kimmirut that there will be a planned power outage on Sunday, May 23, from 8 to 10 a.m. The affected area is highlighted in yellow on the map below.

This power outage is required to safely connect a new residential building to the distribution system.
