The Corporate Projects Coordinator provides essential services for project and special initiatives coordination within the department and throughout QEC. A key component of this position is to provide research and prepare discussion papers and reports when requested. The position may be required to disseminate findings via briefing notes, by planning and/or delivering presentations, and through published articles.

Qulliq Energy Corporation has completed new Qikiqtarjuaq power plant

IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 14, 2017) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has completed the construction and testing of the new Qikiqtarjuaq power plant. The new power plant is the second major project recently completed by QEC. In November 2016, QEC announced the operation of a new power plant for the community of Taloyoak.

“I’m very pleased to announce the success of both QEC’s capital projects. This critical infrastructure is key to the continued economic development of Qikiqtarjuaq and Nunavut,” said the Honourable Johnny Mike, Minister responsible for QEC.

Planned Power Outage in Baker Lake

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Baker Lake that there will be a planned power outage on Thursday, March 16 from midnight to 2 a.m.

The outage is required to prepare for upcoming upgrades to the power plant system.

QEC would like to thank the residents for their understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during this time.

Plant Superintendent

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Plant Superintendent is responsible for maintaining safe and continuous power generation and distribution, integrating production and maintenance requirements of all mechanical and electrical equipment under his/her jurisdiction.

The position is also responsible for operating and monitoring the diesel powerhouse and associated systems to provide safe, reliable electrical service to Qulliq Energy customers in the community in a cost effective manner.

QEC applies for new Fuel Stabilization Rider refund

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has applied to the Minister responsible for QEC for a new Fuel Stabilization Rate (FSR) refund rider of 8.23 cents per kilowatt hour. The proposed refund covers the period from April 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017.

“This is the fourth consecutive fuel rider refund that QEC has requested since November 2015. As such, I will be seeking advice from the Utility Rates Review Council regarding QEC’s application,” said the Honourable Johnny Mike, Minister responsible for QEC.
