Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has completed the construction and testing of the new Qikiqtarjuaq power plant. The new power plant is the second major project recently completed by QEC. In November 2016, QEC announced the operation of a new power plant for the community of Taloyoak.

Qulliq Energy Corporation celebrates new power plant with Pangnirtung community

IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 3, 2017) –Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) officials joined local dignitaries and community members today to celebrate the successful commissioning of the new Pangnirtung power plant. The original power plant, which was built in 1971, was destroyed by fire in April 2015.

Qulliq Energy Corporation expands LED streetlights project in Nunavut

IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 22, 2017) – Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is pleased to announce that it will be replacing all conventional streetlights in Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Cambridge Bay and Kugluktuk with energy efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode) streetlights before the end of 2017.

The decision to switch to LED lighting is the result of a pilot project conducted in 2015 that measured the performance of several energy efficient streetlight options.

Testing of new power plant in Pangnirtung

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Pangnirtung that there will be power outages planned for the following days:

Friday, March 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, March 25 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, March 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The outages are required to test the new power plant.

Planned Partial Power Outage in Gjoa Haven

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) would like to inform the residents of Gjoa Haven that there will be a planned power outage in a section of the community on Wednesday, March 22 from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. The affected area is highlighted on the map below.

This outage is required to perform maintenance of the power plant system.

Corporate Projects Coordinator

The Corporate Projects Coordinator provides essential services for project and special initiatives coordination within the department and throughout QEC. A key component of this position is to provide research and prepare discussion papers and reports when requested. The position may be required to disseminate findings via briefing notes, by planning and/or delivering presentations, and through published articles.

The new power plant is the second major project recently completed by QEC. In November 2016, QEC announced the operation of a new power plant for the community of Taloyoak.

“I’m very pleased to announce the success of both QEC’s capital projects. This critical infrastructure is key to the continued economic development of Qikiqtarjuaq and Nunavut,” said the Honourable Johnny Mike, Minister responsible for QEC.
